Sanford Housing Co-operative or Sanford Co-op is a housing co-operative located in south east London. Currently home to around 120 people, it is the first purpose-built housing co-operative in the United Kingdom and has run without interruption since its opening in 1974.
Sanford Housing Co-op held its first general meeting at Lewisham town hall, and it was packed. Sanford had made a surplus, because its members had supplied many of the services and management functions over the year, thus saving the co-op money.
Sanford is the oldest purpose-built housing co-operative in London. Founded in 1973, it has been transformed from a wasteland into a cosy, green and welcoming environment. Our street, Sanford Walk, is home to 125 tenants, living in 14 houses and 6 flats.

Let's connect! Sanford Housing Co-op is situated approximately half way between Surrey Quays and New Cross Overground stations. The nearest bus stop is along the 225 route. The 225 can be taken from Canada Water station (Jubilee Line and London Overground) or from Surrey Quays station (London Overground) directly to Sanford.
